We made party decorations and used sparklers outside and sang happy birthday and the whole family was present and accounted for! We are the special people in Ezra's life. He was so excited!

BIRTHDAY BOY, WAKE UP!

Beltless, birthday boy oh, boy!---Chocolate muffin for breakfast, with hot chocolate brew. A special birthday, for a special boy! Son of my old age. The one child that took me out of the world and brought me back again. I did die, everyday, and God breathed back into me, everyday. When I think of the goodness of Jesus... Halleluia! Now, sometimes, in the humdrum of daily life, we forget that God has a purpose for us being here. He and I are still here. Just as amazing as it can be.
Jacob lost his Rachel, when Benjamin was born, probably for the same reason I died with Ezra. Stroked out, blood pressure through the roof. Can't push, Emergency C section, one of us or both of us were gone, gone, gone. Too much pitosin, too soon in the process. Not a life friendly medical establishment. Why would you do this to a child when you can hardly care for the ones who are here, they say. They really don't know what care is all about. Love is sharing the hot chocolate this morning and moving over in the bed of your heart to fit the little amazing miracle into your life, when you thought there was no more room. If your heart busts if your blood vessels bust, if your pressure goes over the top, call the "sistahood?"
God Bless America!

I almost missed 1 day to 5.0!

Sleepyhead, mommy, was still in the bed at 6:30 am; like no other day. One day to 5, I love you! I am so happy when I hear that little voice wafting above the waves of cacophony that is the morning routine. I am going to be 5 tomorrow, mommy! He says excitedly! Me! Me! I can't believe it, My baby is going to be 5 tomorrow. I am such a last minute mommy. Cupcakes for the class? Cake at home? Surprises for me is how my baby will enjoy his day! What can I do to show him how grateful I am that he filled out our quiver and came to live with us at the last possible minute. What a precious gift he is! Not my favorite, but I can understand why Jacob, in the Bible, had a problem with favoring the baby. You just want to hold onto the last vestages of the fruit of your youth. He has so much excitement about his birthday, I wish that I could bottle it!

Show and Share day and birthday come together...
Ezra thought that everyday is his show and share day. No, honey, it says on the list that your show and share day is Thursday, this week it falls on your birthday. 5 years old this week. 5 years ago we were stumbling between funerals of Uncle Mose and Grandpa Bob. My belly was making me grumpy and cranky and I was still a whole month before delivery. Not at all expecting Ezra to come a month early. That is his personality.
Glum is Ezra's vocabulary word today. He just throws out words to catch his mother's attention. I LOVE IT!
Today's word was glum. I retorted telling him about the Jackson 5's song that included "DON'T cry, don't cry, don't cry!" Christmas won't be the same this year. This is how we knock down the generation gap. I can't believe we get to talk to someone 40 years junior and find a position of commonality.
It reminds me of Grandma Monica and Grandma Ruth who were 40 years my seniors and music and Tom Jones and Elvis and Harry Belafonte and Nat King Cole and Fats Waller and Paul Robeson and their interests were scaled down for us to understand them.

5 Days to 5
5 days before my birthday my mommy kissed me before she went to work! ...
5 golden rings, 4 calling birds, 3 french hens, 2 turtle doves and 1 little 5 year old we can't wait to celebrate!
2 full weeks into school and he woke up early ready to take the bus. Last Sat. we had school to pay back for the rain day. So, of course the inexperienced Kindergartener thought that this was a usual occurrence. He was a little dissappointed when I told him that ordinarily there is no school on Saturday. What a "goody-goody"! We have to toughen him up and teach him to complain about going to school. Believe me in my experience, it only takes about a month and he'll be complaining. We'll see!

Animal Crackers were a good enough snack
for the class. I am sure that they won't be writing home to momma about the wonderful snack that Ezra brought on his day. Now, all sights are set to plan the 5 year old's birthday next week. Nothing on the agenda! Nothing else in the way that impedes our sights from that day. Not saying that something won't attempt to distract us from the celebration. Every year Ezra shared his birthday with Uncle Pat and now Uncle is gone and he celebrates. He is the baby boy like Uncle was and if he is as faithful a son as Uncle was to his mother, I am extremely blessed! 5 years old is coming!
